Hentai Sex Fantasies and Fantasia

Having read some of those black & white erotic comics when I was a kid, I can relate to the increasingly popular Hentai genre.

Hentai generally means "sexually perverted" in Japanese but when used by North American producers and fans it simply means Japanese-produced sexually explicit cartoons, or porn anime (which is the term for Japanese cartoons).

But perverted isn't far from what some of the kinkier hentai films seem to be. Crawling, tentacle monsters raping over-developed schoolgirl types, aliens or demons with body-piercing penises, massive defecatory and enema porn, and all sorts of over-the-top toon sex fetish extremes are common features.

While hentai covers all the main porn themes or niches, from animated lockerroom lesbians to hetero hardcore, it does so the same way it portrays its incredibly endowed women and men, with enormous breasts and penises, ramped up thighs and butts - that is, extremely and in ways only possible in the toonworld, not in the real world.

And this must be the appeal of hentai; while those erotic comics of days gone past were realistic, within the realm of the physical, hentai is way out there and more akin to the Wicked Wanda comics in Penthouse, Playboy's Little Annie Fanny and other beefed up, ballooned cartoon characters.

Finally one of the most important elements in hentai seems to be the setup, or fantasy - the narrative that establishes the fantasy, whether bizarre or naturalistic. In that way you could say this fairly modern thing is more like the old dirty movies of the 60s and 70s.
